Recent research suggests that even if humans escape chronic diseases such as cancer or heart disease, the body still faces an intrinsic limit. This limit is caused by the gradual decline of “physiological resilience,” the ability to recover to a stable state after stress or disruption.

A study led by Timothy Pyrkov of the biotech company Gero in Singapore, in collaboration with Roswell Park Cancer Center, found that resilience effectively disappears between ages 120 and 150. At this stage, even minor disturbances can become fatal.

To measure resilience, researchers analyzed two indicators: blood cell counts and daily step numbers. Both decline over time, reflecting the natural aging process. These findings confirm that human lifespan has a biological ceiling, and without fundamental interventions such as organ regeneration or genetic engineering, it cannot be extended beyond this limit.
